Magic winter in Utsjoki

There is plenty of pure snow and frosty temperatures in Utsjoki
from November to May. Trails and traces left by reindeers
and willow grouses cross the white plains of glimmering snow.
The snowy and quiet wilderness starts right from the hotel.

Hotel guests can have a look at the local reindeer husbandry
by visiting a Saami reindeer farm. In Utsjoki, people use a motor sledge
as their main means of transport. It is also the best way for the visitor
to go out to the wilds where Northern Lights and the moonlight
are at their brightest. For someone who prefers less speed there are
good opportunities for snowshoe trekking to observe nature.

In the evening, it is time to enjoy a warm moment
in the sauna or a delicious dinner at the restaurant.

 Shiny snow in the spring

The shiny snow in the spring makes nature to start to wake up
after the sleep of the long period of winter darkness. At this time,
ice-fishers come to drill holes in the ice. Lying on a reindeer hide
drinking coffee by a fire on the ice of a mountain lake could not
be further from haste and hurry. This is Lapland at its best.

The glimmering snow invites you to follow a skiing track or
to make one for yourself wherever you want.
